ME/CFS Press Conference: New Survey Reveals Awareness Gaps

PRESS CONFERENCE ON 28.06.2024

On June 28, 2024, a significant press conference was held at the Concordia Press Club to present the first comprehensive survey on the perception of ME/CFS (Myalgic Encephalomyelitis/Chronic Fatigue Syndrome) in Austria. The event revealed important insights into the public's awareness and attitudes towards this severe neuro-immunological disease.

Key Findings of the Survey:

  • Awareness: The survey indicates a significant information gap about ME/CFS among the general population. Many people are unaware of the severity and complexity of the disease.

  • Need for Support: The results highlight the urgent need for specialized contact points, improved social security, and intensified research into post-viral diseases like ME/CFS.

  • Expert Demands: High-profile experts, including Rudolf Anschober, Prof. Dr. Kathryn Hoffmann, and Dr. Stingl, emphasized the necessity of adapting the healthcare system to provide adequate care and support for those affected.

Rudolf Anschober, former Minister of Health, stressed the importance of raising public awareness and taking political action. Prof. Dr. Kathryn Hoffmann from the Medical University of Vienna presented the detailed survey results and advocated for increased scientific research and better educational initiatives to better understand the disease and its impacts.

This press conference marks an important step towards better understanding and improved support for ME/CFS patients in Austria. It is now crucial for politics and society to work together to improve the quality of life for those affected.
